Northampton Council is BARRED from Museums Assoc.

The Museums Association has barred Northampton Borough Council from its membership for five years for selling the Sekhemka statue.

The decision has been made today in a meeting by the MA's disciplinary committee after it found the council guilty of misconduct.

It comes in the wake of the council pulling out of the membership last week.

It makes Northampton Borough Council the fourth organisation that has been barred from membership in the MA's 125-year history. :g38:

Seems a pointless exercise, as they no longer wanted to be a member.

The reasoning behind this action is sad to say the least. Museums should have a code of conduct which prevents profiteering from public donations of historical artefacts.
Perhaps the bodies which control local public spending should be brought to account. Local government have unfortunately only the public to answer to and we are run rough shod over at every opportunity.

Shame on these local authorities.
