A-Levels in the news again

Post by Deetektor »

Why on earth is this news ?????

Every year we get the same thing. Reporters at schools, watching while kids open
their envelopes, followed by screaming and hugging.

I'm sure those with children or grand children are proud of their achievements,
but is it really news ?

Does it make a good topic for a thread ?
I used to have an issue regarding having an inferiority complex, I no longer have an issue with being inferior.

I got 7 CSE's middle grades (1978), nothing spectacular but for the life of me I can't remember anyone running up the flags and making a song and dance about it! My girlfriends lad is 22 in November and his life achievements (exempt six form and further eduction/Uni) are ZILCH!! Tried talking to him the other day about actually getting a job, pensions, life experience (work), housekeeping money, paying his OWN way..... Total waste of time :g64: Still, at least I can say to him in years to come "I told you so, idiot" :g50:
Swing till you drop...... if in doubt - DIG IT!!

Had a similar talk with my son; At the end of it he just shrugged his shoulders.
I said to him... "What is it with you lad; Ignorance or apathy?
He said... "I don't know and I don't care." :hahaha:

I don't mind hearing about their results. What I hate is all the crap about their 'Proms'. Kids wearing black tie and cocktail gowns and being driven in Rolls Royces. Yet another American import . All they've done is finish basic compulsory schooling.

I couldn't wait to see the back of my school. Education then was just to turn us out to either work in the mill, or go into engineering. No one then used to go to University. Only the rich went to 'Uni' in those days.

I did graduate though, as a mature student aged 35. I also got a part of a BA with the Open University in the early 1980's.

I find even the thought of that quite sickening.
It's all about the parents seeing who can out do each other, with their sprogs outfits.
