Im an American coming in April for a vacation for 4 days. I will be coming to detect and was wondering if anyone around would have me with them? I plan on going door bell ringing to try for some permission. Would happily buy dinner and a round or two afterward! Appreciate it!

Just about the worst time of year to come over to detect....... Winter sown crops will be well up, Spring sown crop just starting and grass heading for its first cut. Depending on the great British weather though!! Good luck.

Now!
Harvest of arable crop can start as early as late July, animals get taken in Oct/Nov. So from late July until March there is more opportunity, however many farms now direct drill and there can be as little as 3 days between harvest and an over-wintering crop being drilled.
That "Winter" crop (especially oilseed rape) can even be in flower & waist deep by November!!
August/Sept/Oct/Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb and maybe March are peak months...... April/May its "limited"........ June/July.... go on holiday!! ;-)

Re: Looking for Detecting partner near London Stansted
There lies the problem with having places to detect even If I did come now. That is the reason I have joined the forum in hopes to meet up with someone who would be willing to take me along. I leave Europe in early July so anything after that is out of the question. Isnt it awful cold there right now as well?
