First trip out on the beach with my cs4pi

Evening all,

Took my cs4pi out for its first beach outing today.
I have been out the game for 20 years and only did inland detecting, so this was going to big learning curve.

There was a lot of sand built up but one area had nothing apart from black sand and cobbles. So this was where I headed.

First hit was a 6" square iron nail at just over a spades depth, so was the next 8 hits. They all seemed to be line. There was a lot more signals but were abit deeper and the holes kept filling in with water, so didn't retrieve items. Must have been an old wreck or something.
Anyone know what boats used 6" square iron nails?

Moved a long abit then got another signal, lead fishing weight at 4".
The next few hours were mostly peoples rubbish.

I moved up onto the dry stuff for the walk home, 43 pence later my day was at an end.

I've a lot to learn about the cs4pi, the only thing I didn't like was the head phones that came with the detector were rubbish, kept falling off my head or rising up. So new head phones is a must.

Really enjoyed my first day out, met a gent (John)86 years young who was detecting the same beach, I met him two weeks ago on the same beach while out with my dogs, he's why I got back into detecting. Another chap was also detecting the other end.

Hi CAF', and welcome to the world of beaching, with P.I.

Your nails are boat nail, and would appear to be from a wreck. I would suggest that you try to research for local wrecks, and, possibly have a word
with your FLO about the finds.

If you are digging on wet sand, you must expect the hole to quickly fill up, and so, be prepared to have to dig very rapidly to get enough out, fast enough to lift the find.
Which I suppose says something for using a scoop, I don't know, as I never have tried one.

The essential thing is that a P.I. detector will commit you to a lot of digging, everything in fact, with varying results.

Sounds interesting I would love to try beach detecting more often but 60/ 70 miles to the nearest beach is out of my reach really

A strong spade with a pointed longer blade, a good back, and speed digging skills are a must. I've a CS4Pi and yes you will have to dig everything.

It depends on the beach and geology of the area, I normally play until I get a stable output.
