Re: Recovered gems stolen from bm
Nobody seems to have been prosecuted for these thefts, although they know who it was (or at least one of them)? Maybe the police are still making enquiries

Re: Battle of Hastings hoard goes to sale
So did the Anglo Saxons not have fair sites? If they did were they just bartering goods as they had no coins? There are lots of Medieval fair sites all over the country and most of the big ones were outside of the towns and villages, usually on the hill tops , I just find it strange that there are n...

They only really started using pennies as proper currency when Henry 11 came in with his Voided Short-Cross...

Definitely a pile of rubbish with regard to reflecting our hobby - as all have stated it WILL NOT BE GOOD FOR THE HOBBY :g44: :g44: :g45: Can you imagine knocking on a farmers door this coming weekend if he has watched this first episode? He's gonna say a big NO isn't he? As Hopenscope said why did...

Re: Finds to be purchased
Why do they need to buy all of those worn Staters? I mean the BM is known for keeping hold of the 'best' of previous hoards from elsewhere, then returning the rest. The way things are Museums will need to justify to the local taxpayer their annual expense. If I was local I'd think it was justified ...

Re: Council won’t pay for brooch
Can someone please tell me what is the point of having a valuation committee at the BM? Surely if the committee have agreed a valuation, then it is not up to the museum to argue, or try and haggle a price they can afford? It is quite simple - The brooch should immediately be returned to the finder -...
