Re: Gold stolen from British museum

Here is the latest news on Peter Higgs being sued for theft. Strangely he hasn't been charged by the Police yet. https://www.artnews.com/art-news/news/b ... 234701082/

Re: Metal pollution hide British treasures forever

As the calcium carbonate in the water forms limescale when the water is boiled, it traps many of the microplastic particles within the scale. So when you descale your kettle you dispose of the microplastics too.

Re: Man finds large gold nugget in Shropshire

I chatted with the finder, who lives in N Worle only days after he found the nugget. He told me about how he found it and his reason for naming it Hiro, after his Japanese wife.

Re: Coin of new king found

This will be of huge benefit in terms of identifying any similar coins in the future. In my experience, potentially unique coins are treated with suspicion until like examples are found. Some years ago I found a type 10, cross fleury penny of Henry 1st minted by the moneyer ANDERAM in Leicester. At ...

Re: BM posts images of missing items

Quite how an institution such as the British Museum could have failed to log new acquisitions properly and conduct regular reviews of their holdings defies belief. To say that they have acted like a bunch of amateurs would be disrespectful to amateurs who I am sure would have done a far better job o...

Re: Henry Cole is back for another hunt

The only positive was that it showed the significant amounts of rubbish that detectorists have to dig up before finding something of interest. But given that they are detecting what many would describe as prime sites, I was surprised at how few good finds were made.

Revised Treasure Act

This was reported via TRegistrars on Twitter. The Minister announced that DCMS will be introducing legislation this year to extend the definition of Treasure to cover significant metallic finds more than 200 years old that don't meet the existing criteria. It is believed that this is to enable items...

How can those who have items going through the treasure process check to see if they are affected by the thefts? Is there someone they can contact?

Sorry to hear that JimmyB. Have the authorities concerned indicated what might happen by way of recompense if they are not recovered?

Re: Roman artefacts stolen from BM

The fact that the associated documentation has also disappeared points to an inside job. Will the finders and landowners still receive payment? In my opinion they should because it was the responsibility of those retaining the items to insure themselves against losses.

Re: strange things you find

While detecting in the snow many years ago I came across a bag containing 5 vhs video tapes. Once home I decided to play the Madonna's Immaculate Conception tape thinking it might be a bit raunchy. However, someone had placed sticky tape over the slot which prevents over recording and instead of Mad...
