Re: Pompeii archaeologists uncover sorcerer's treasure

Thank you so very much for your articles. Visiting Pompeii had been high on my 'wish list' for many years and I was finally able to go there on a tour 3 years ago. I am still very interested in the site and avidly await news of new discoveries from Area V.

Re: US tourists paying thousands to trudge UK fields

As long as you find such things on private land (hopefully with permission), it's yours. Taking things, including metal detecting and arrowheads/other native American made things is usually forbidden on federal land/parks. States and localities may have other regulations. Frankly, I think PAS is won...

Re: US tourists paying thousands to trudge UK fields

Lee Greagsbey- I learned my lesson from the earlier experiences, I now go with a group from Colchester who scrupulously records EVERYTHING with PAS. At the end of the hunt, we turn all our finds to him. He then deals with the liaison officer, the museums and the export licenses. With him, I feel tha...

Re: US tourists paying thousands to trudge UK fields

It's not totally unsubstantiated. I'm one of those American tourists who come to your wonderful country to hunt for things in the ground. I went with a fellow some years ago in Norfolk and found a Mark Anthony coin that had been varnished. Needless to say, that was my last trip with THAT fellow. Ano...

OMG! (as the young folks say) . Wouldn't you have some kind of attack if you found THAT in the ground?

Thank you so much for the resources on pottery. I have seen it identified on Time Team and have always wondered how it was done.

Re: Gold settings for Explorer SE

Good suggestion, Gary. I will be sure to bury them for best results. I'd better tie a string to each one, too. It'd be just like me to lose something valuable in my own yard.

Gold settings for Explorer SE

I've just come from a metal detecting trip to East Anglia. Does anyone have any settings or group of settings that would help me locate gold things? :g43:
