When I first heard this yesterday I thought wow another royal Saxon burial from that area, but no, this is a story recycled from 2003 :g64: :g64: :g64:

Re: Archaeologists discover 22 Roman skeletons

"It could be these individuals were decapitated in order to suppress the spirits of criminal or other undesirable individuals." Or in my uneducated mind the head was cut off because the coffin was to small - look at the skelly with the dark stained earth, it clearly shows the small size of the coffi...

Re: More treasure-hunters could be forced to hand over

That is ok for new detectors sold or second hand one's from a dealer but in the real world a licence will only make more available on fleabay etc and the ignorant and/or thieves will be able to pick them up cheaply as so many will be available. Therefore, certainly for the first couple of years, it ...

Re: More treasure-hunters could be forced to hand over

Licences will never work and will only penalise the law abiding in the hobby. I fail to see how or why people seem to think they will stop the criminal fraternity from using detectors?

Well it is from Fox News the 'inventer' of such things.

I think it is a typo.....it should have said "Treasure hunter finds possible Roman coins on eBay Area" :g42:

Re: Livery buttons

Not a livery button I'm afraid Alan, more likely a shooting/hunting button. The manufacturer was Thomas Ledsam & Sons, a British firm with operations in both Birmingham and London, was in business at least as early as 1797. The button presumably dates no later than around 1850, when Ledsam & Sons wa...

Great story Lee, a real shame that "may be an apotropaic deposit intended to prevent evil influences entering the house." as it clearly doesn't ward off ram raiders! :g42:

Re: Parliament's statue of Cromwell maybe taken down

It looks like an academic who is trying to raise a reputation by jumping on the PC bandwagon and has 'suggested' this be the next statue to be removed. I bet he isn't successful, but he got his name in several papers which was the objective! :g64: :g64: :g64:

Re: Test track plans for site of Battle of Bosworth

"including a 25 acre area that has officially protected status" - if that status means anything at all then development on that part of the site should be refused, if not it is a worthless scheme. If it does get the go ahead then at least it will have an archaeological dig and as much info as possib...
