Re: Hoard’s value ‘too low’

Noticed the report was from Nov.2016.I wonder if anything came of that. The find was made in 1996, if he waited 20 years to "go to the papers" then the simple answer is No. Statute of limitations (Limitations Act 1980) limits such a "claim" to 6 years so his time ran out in 2002...

Re: Test track plans for site of Battle of Bosworth

Those 25 acres represent about 0.8% of the "battle site". As we know these battle fields are very ephemeral things with skirmishes and fights across a massive area. Metal detecting has already proved the "accepted" battlefield is not in the right place, neither is the visitors ce...

Re: Looters suspected of raiding Castle Hill...

Lack of education is our enemy, all retailers should be compelled to provide a copy of the Code of Conduct and tell every customer about gaining permission. The downside to that is the retailer may lose a few sales & it doesn`t cover the second hand market. Aside from that..................... l...

Re: Looters suspected of raiding Castle Hill...

it could be a site of a post hole or a marker stone was removed ..that when i have seen similar holes as this clean hole Too shallow for a post hole, and there is a small amount of soil visible to the bottom side of the hole. I know a person who readily admits to "hawking" and stated that...

Re: Looters suspected of raiding Castle Hill...

A typical loose sample of fairly dry topsoil weighs around 1600 pounds per cubic yard. There are 27 cubic feet in a yard and 7.48 gallons in a cubic foot. 1600/27=59.26 pounds a cubic foot. So if the holes are 1/4 of a cubic foot, roughly 15lbs ...... then somebody is lugging 6 x 15lbs or 90lbs of s...

Some of it can be seen at the bottom of the shot. Do I take it that you have sympathy for the perpetrators of what has happened, or are you just being contrary again ? I have no sympathy with the perpetrators, none, nothing. I have issues with the assumption that SAM + Hole = Detectorist. With no o...

Where has the turf gone then?
Could as easily have been the bloke with the camera and all the turf & spade is stacked up out of shot?
Its easy enough these days to buy a trail cam and gather proper evidence.

Who was the actual finder and who dug it out?. Was it a Equinox or a XP Deus located the initial signals ?. Some of us are hearing about rumblings and are watching with interest. Happy Hunting. Jerry. It was on a scattered bronze Roman hoard "patch" where they found another 80 coins they ...
