No detterent is the problem. Carry a knife (that is not a tool of your trade)......5 years no parole. Use a knife against another person.......10 years no parole. Kill someone........Restoration of the death penalty when there is no doubt of guilt. Definately an answer John, people have nothing to ...

Re: Mick Aston quits Time Team
Both Mick Aston and Tony Robinson are not anti detecting, they anti detectorist who won't record their finds with the PAS. Which if you come from their archaeological viewpoint, and background, is totally understandable. I spoke to Mick on a couple of occasions about this and he made his point very ...

Re: Mick Aston quits Time Team
Massive mistake in my opinion, Mick was the glue that held the show together, the two new presenters are absolutely crap, a couple of stiff planks. This will be the beginning of the end for this show, how could they throw away all that experience. Stuart Ainsworth and Helen Geake have both been rele...

Re: HMS Victory 'set to be recovered' from seabed
Am I right in thinking that any vessel of military use would be considered a war grave? If that is the case then they'd have a heck of a problem doing what they propose, the wreck would belong to UK PLC surely?

Re: Pilgrim ampullas......a request
This should get you going Tom, found nr Grimsby, from Mitchiner, Medieval Pilgrim and Secular Badges, (1986) No. 420, page 149.
Heraldic type, the scallop shell is indicitive of a general emblem of pilgrimage (rather than a specific reference to St James). Mitchiner has it down as 15thc.
