Re: bronze age gold ring find

I have got permission on this same farm, I spent a week up there a few summers back and I found only Victorian coins on the pasture, but the farmer told me about the stone altar in Carlisle museum :g58: He also told me about a detectorist searching the same spot for days on end on the ploughed land ...

Re: Entire Church Roof Stolen!

20 tons of scrap turning up at a scrapyard would be quite conspicuous :g43: I take my scrap lead in every so often, I had a small roll of roofing lead unused from doing my own dormer window mixed in with my detector found lead and my local scrappy refused to take it :g58:

Re: Roman fountain destroyed

Sooner than dispose of it why did they not ask if private person was interested in preserving or renovating it :g43: Or start a fund raiser and have it installed in a public park with a plaque :g43:

Re: Magnet Fishing.

I doubt there was much chance of this shotgun firing after 'quite' awhile in the water the shell would be well soaked and the firing pin would be rusted solid, but with all weapons they should not be pointed towards other people loaded or unloaded :g45: And no doubt a liberal soaking with WD40 and i...

Re: woman finds 12th cent gold ring in her garden

Last week, whilst digging over the front garden, I found the back half of a toy lead camel, two days later I found the front half, ten feet from the first bit, what are the chances of that eyes only? I don't think us detectorists miss much when digging the land we get used to spotting the different...

Re: woman finds 12th cent gold ring in her garden

I was once asked by an old lady to look for her wedding ring, she had been cutting privet hedges at the end of my mam and dad's street, the ring had slipped off her finger, my dad had told her on the way home from the pit that his son (me) had a metal detector and would ask me to look for it :g58: S...

Re: woman finds 12th cent gold ring in her garden

I once found a gold ring while digging the garden for my late father-in-law, he promptly took it off me and gave it to his son :g48: But being a detectorist doesn't make it an iffy find, you do sometimes find stuff while gardening. And I once found a cut half gold hammy while digging trenches for th...

Re: Amsterdam drained a canal.........

Some brilliant finds I wonder of they metal detected it or just sifted through it with riddles? It must have been hard work because the mud in canals is very deep, I saw a clip on you tube where an hole appeared in a section of canal near Manchester and it emptied completely between two locks and th...
