Revised Treasure Act

This was reported via TRegistrars on Twitter. The Minister announced that DCMS will be introducing legislation this year to extend the definition of Treasure to cover significant metallic finds more than 200 years old that don't meet the existing criteria. It is believed that this is to enable items...

Re: Roman artefacts stolen from BM

How can those who have items going through the treasure process check to see if they are affected by the thefts? Is there someone they can contact?

Re: Roman artefacts stolen from BM

Sorry to hear that JimmyB. Have the authorities concerned indicated what might happen by way of recompense if they are not recovered?

Re: Roman artefacts stolen from BM

The fact that the associated documentation has also disappeared points to an inside job. Will the finders and landowners still receive payment? In my opinion they should because it was the responsibility of those retaining the items to insure themselves against losses.

Re: strange things you find

While detecting in the snow many years ago I came across a bag containing 5 vhs video tapes. Once home I decided to play the Madonna's Immaculate Conception tape thinking it might be a bit raunchy. However, someone had placed sticky tape over the slot which prevents over recording and instead of Mad...

Re: strange things you find

Great sensitivity if you can detect those tiny gold stars. Always nice to find a bit of the yellow stuff. :g42:

Re: This is very bad news for PAS!

Perhaps the security of potential treasure items should be included in the new Treasure Act.

Re: This is very bad news for PAS!

Surely those receiving potential treasure items are obliged to give those submitting items a receipt and should be insured against losses. I insisted on receiving a detailed receipt when handing over a gold posey ring to Bristol Museum staff for this very reason. I also retained good quality detaile...

Nice find Jerry. Never seen one of those before. Come to think of it, I hadn't seen a copper Maryland penny before you famously found one of those too.

Pewsey Hoard Auction

Great to see the Pewsey hoard of silver Roman coins selling for double their upper estimate. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-61477947 I bet the finders are glad that most of the coins were disclaimed and were able to be sold for their full proper value. A few were taken by the Britis...
