Re: 16/05/2011 - Operation to Tackle the Nighthawkers

Great news, about time that real action was taken to attempt a stop of their criminal activities.

I wish it would go nationwide.

Re: Cornish Bronze Age hoard goes on display

These were found on St Michaels Mount, which is just off Marazion in Cornwall. It has a stunning castle atop the island, which is the residence of Lord St Leven, and his good lady. There is a causeway which links it to the mainland, and also a ferry service, the mount is open to the public, who can ...

Re: R.I.P Claude Choules

What a life he lead, the changes he saw, the action he survived, unbelievable, then he made it thru to 110. God bless him, the likes of him will never be forgotten. Sadly, the likes of him are forgotten all too easily, which is why Remembrance Day should never be allowed to disappear from our lives...

Re: What a Dallinghoo-ha! £300,000 gold coin dispute!

The valuation committees ruling seems right to me, the landowner gets 50% and the detectorists share 50%, you take your mate(s) with you and you both/all share the good times and the bad. I think you are spot on Liz. We all should know what the Treasure rules are, and what the "rewards" a...

A Viking woman, who died God knows when, unearthed 30 years ago, and they reconstruct her face ?

I hope she liked the results, and paid up front :hahaha:

Re: Anger at Metal Detecting TV Show

It is always easy to be critical of programs such as this, but, let us not forget, without such happenings, all we would have is the right to complain. Metal detecting, as a whole, is a good hobby, with a really wonderful bunch of people in it, and then there are, THE CRIMINALS, the ones who cause a...

Re: Protection for Battlefields

It also goes to show that many detectorist are or have missed an opportunity with some sites where battles have taken place, by this I mean its worth noting find spots of musket and pistol shots if you find say more than 10 in a small area. The likelihood is that more will turn up over time and the...

Re: Protection for Battlefields

I can see the merit in keeping unwanted persons off battlefields, if we treat them as scheduled monuments, and I would have no problem with that happening. There is however, and will be for the foreseable future the problem of previously unknown battlefields, such as the one found in Cornwall a few ...
