In this day and age with good quality digital photography I do not see why treasure items cannot be held by the finder, until it is decided if it is indeed treasure, or if a Museum would like to acquire the item, then hand it over. That would save an awful lot of hastle sending things back and forw...

Surely those receiving potential treasure items are obliged to give those submitting items a receipt and should be insured against losses. I insisted on receiving a detailed receipt when handing over a gold posey ring to Bristol Museum staff for this very reason. I also retained good quality detail...

what machine and proggy and depth ???must be an oldie It was found with a 13 year old Tesoro Bandido, which I still have, but I am donating it to the archaeological groups archive on the 20th anniversary next August. I was quite pleased at the time Pete! :g42: I wasn't on the forum back in 2003, but I did do a write up for The Searcher mag and there was also one done by Chris Rudd the coin dealer for Treasure Hunting mag. I have the mag articles somewhere, so if you want, I can send a copy :beer
