Portable Antiquities & Treasure Annual Reports

The launch today of the Portable Antiquities and Treasure annual reports show that 97,509 finds were recorded by the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) in 2011 (an 8% rise on the previous year) and 970 Treasure cases were reported in the same period (up by 12%)..........................

All very encouraging :g50:

As most of you will know, they no longer publish the Telephone Directory sized
catalogues as in previous years.
It's now a more compact 30 page A4 sized booklet. Still a good read though.
Support the PAS
You know it makes sense

I notice they have included Pops's Strap Union, Tom's Ringerike Harness Pendant and PaulR's Will Russell Hawking Vervell, well found folks :g38: There may be others off UKDN too :g43:

Strange thing about the Portable Antiquities Scheme is:

As it is mostly (but not all) to do with finds made by metal detectorists, it
still has it's detractors in both the amateur and professional archaeological
community.

I have posted the above link on a couple of what I would loosely term,
amateur archaeological websites I frequently post on, and it has drawn
no comments whatsoever. I guess, because although they can obviously
see the benefits of the scheme, they still wont openly admit that
detectorists make many finds which add to our understanding of the past.
