Re: Mick Aston past away!
I know Mick was an anti, but he got me interested. Regardless, I respect his ideas and his contribution to popularising archaeology with the general public. 20 odd years ago I became hooked on TT. Its a shame that when TT ended that Mick, a Black Country lad past away.

Re: Mick Aston past away!
Having met the man during the making of the Time Team episode of "View to Kiln " 2003. of which I was involved ,
Being a detectorist I was a bit apprehensive at first, because it was said he disliked us, but contrary to this I found him
to be a very friendly and engaging man, over the three days we had many a chat about Archaeology and detecting in general,
I liked him ! R.I.P. Mick Aston .

Re: Mick Aston past away!
A very knowledgeable archaeologist, especially medieval monastic studies, and a genuine character and gent. No one else has increased public interest in archaeology as Mick, not only through TT but through other projects from the 70's onwards. Unfortunately we will not see his like again. RIP Mick.
I have become comfortably numb

Re: Mick Aston past away!
I met Mick on quite a few occasions, especially at our Berkeley excavations and at Bristol Uni, he was a real knowledgeable gentleman. He was never anti detecting, but he was anti anyone who did not record their finds, there is a big difference. As an archaeologist what would you expect from a man whose life evolved around telling the story of our landscapes in Britain, to him detail was everything. A sad loss.
Re: Mick Aston past away!
He always seemed like a real character. Maybe it was the shock of seeing Tony Robinson get the sword tap when, in all honesty, Mick was far more deserving.
Give a little more, take a little less and make the world a better place.

Mick was a guy who said it as he felt it to be, a man to be admired for his honesty. R.I.P. Mick.
I used to have an issue regarding having an inferiority complex, I no longer have an issue with being inferior.
