Harvest is nearly here.

Post by Puffin »

It’s July, which can only mean one thing – the great British harvest is just weeks, if not days, away.

The combines are being serviced, grain stores are being swept and agronomists are packing suitcases for their summer holidays.

Farmers Weekly has been speaking to growers in typically early harvesting areas of the UK and the general consensus is that harvest 2016 is likely to commence at the end of next week (about 14 July).

Why not report here when you see a field of grain being harvested, we will hopefully see the reports spreading south to north, would be great to see how long it takes from Cornwall to Scotland.

Most are still green down here in Oggieland.

I drove back from Southampton to my home in Staffordshire last Saturday, doing about 150 miles and passing hundreds, if not thousands of fields...and every one looked a definite shade of green. Did not see a single field that looked anywhere near to being ready as yet. :g48:

I did Stansted and Heathrow last weekend, yes fields started to look ripe in some areas. But I've just seen a number of hay fields tonight around Lichfield tonight. still a week or two away around here. To quote Oddball, "Feel those rays man". Just need some sun to push the crops on a tad.
