Are those letters on the front? If so it would be nice to know what they are Phil. Had a look at Police helmet badges but cannot find one identical.....yet!

EDIT - sorry Phil should have read the story first - the letters LM and Prince of Wales plume :g50:

It's West Brecon Local Militia. Formed on 23 March 1809 under the command of Lt Col Comm Henry Allen, kept the same name until 1813 when retitled the Breckonshire Regt, they were disbanded in 1816 in line with the end of Local Militias. The design corresponds to their buttons as you would expect. It could be a belt plate or badge, hard to tell from the images. There was also an east Brecon unit.

Cheers

No problem Phil, you going to mail the paper? Pretty poor showing by local museum to not be able to ID it and as for 'letters LM open for interpretation...' good grief!!

Just received the following email and image from the Editor;

Hi the badge is West Brecon Local Militia.

ID'd by Blue_Yeti on the UK Detectornet Metal Detecting Forum.

Regards, Phil.

That's brilliant Phil - I've attached a better image of the badge so you might be able to tell me if it's a belt plate or not,
regards
Patrick Edwards

Cheers guys...

Yes 99% certain it's a belt plate but an image of the back would conclude it 100%

Looking at the back of this one I think the one he found started life as a belt plate and then got modified.

Click on the little reverse image.

Do you agree Steve?
