A huge camp which was home to thousands of Vikings as they prepared to conquer England in the late ninth century has been uncovered by archaeologists, A scene from the virtual reality experience showing vikings repairing their boats at the camp
Established in Torksey, on the banks of the River Trent in Lincolnshire, the camp was used as the Vikings’ defensive and strategic position during the winter months..................

Re: Viking army camp uncovered by archaeologists
Julian Richards gave us a talk about this site last month. It was very inspiring as there is a similar Viking winter camp site at Repton, not too far up the river from where I go detecting, and I've found quite a few lead items which I think could be gaming pieces, as well as a few more obviously Viking bits like strap ends and an Arabic dirham.
Thanks for the link, I wasn't aware of the virtual reality exhibition - hopefully it will go on tour eventually.
