Gold coin 'dropped by one of King Richard III's soldiers' sells for more than £40,000
A RARE gold coin believed to have been dropped by one of King Richard III's soldiers fleeing the Battle of Bosworth has sold for more than £40,000.
PUBLISHED: 00:00, Thu, Dec 14, 2017 | UPDATED: 14:17, Thu, Dec 14, 2017

The Richard III Half Angel piece was unearthed by novice metal detectorist Michelle Vall a few miles from the site of the a history-defining battle where the King was killed in 1485.

Due to his short reign of just two years and its proximity to the Leicestershire battlefield it is highly likely it belonged to one of his men.

The coin had lain buried in a field for more than five centuries until treasure hunter Michelle, 51, stumbled upon it.

And the school teaching assistant is now celebrating an early Christmas present after the coin sold for four times its pre-sale estimate at auction.

******

think they have a wrong coin photo in the story,,thats not a half angel shown

Not sure what coin they are showing (a Celtic type gold coin?) but it sure isn't a Richard 111 half angel?

Thanks for the story though.

That’s a great result for the finder, as you say not the correct coin pictured :g43:
