1,800-year-old Roman signet ring

Post by History Hunter »

Amateur treasure hunter, 45, unearths a 1,800-year-old Roman signet ring engraved with the goddess of Victory in a field in Somerset.

An amateur treasure hunter used a metal detector to unearth a 1,800-year-old gold Roman signet ring in Somerset.

Pest control officer Jason Massey, 45, discovered the rare piece of jewellery, which features an engraving of the Roman goddess of Victory, in a field near Crewkerne.

It really is stunning isn't it.
I used to have an issue regarding having an inferiority complex, I no longer have an issue with being inferior.

I believe it is now with the BM in London, on it's journey through the treasure system - just hope they don't lose it, like they did with the £3/4 million Cartier ring :g42:

Happy Hunting,

Jerry.
Its been found.

According to the oracles on FB its "worfff" between £15,000 and £150,000!

Its on its way to the BM and the finder, despite being given sound advice, took it to be "valued" at the local auction house who rolled him for £700.

If its just a general auction house it won`t be worth the paper its written on.

Ho hum. :g64:

There is one thing I hate, and that is when the media call us amateur treasure hunters. We are metal detectorists.

You don't hear of archeologists being called treasure hunters
do you. :g44:

Who was the actual finder and who dug it out?.
Was it a Equinox or a XP Deus located the initial signals ?.
Some of us are hearing about rumblings and are watching with interest.

It was on a scattered bronze Roman hoard "patch" where they found another 80 coins they missed the first time...... :g42:
Chap with a Deus got the signal first, thought it was "iffy" (48gms of solid gold......iffy?? :g42: )
Then Jason dug it with the Equinox.
They say it will be a split between the landowner and both "finders".

That sounds more fair than a 2 way split with one person having all the headlines.

Practice makes perfect with using any any detector.

Certainly there must be one very happy farmer/landowner.
