I have got permission on this same farm, I spent a week up there a few summers back and I found only Victorian coins on the pasture, but the farmer told me about the stone altar in Carlisle museum :g58: He also told me about a detectorist searching the same spot for days on end on the ploughed land over the road, so he approached him and asked what he was searching for? it turned out he had found half of a coin die and was searching for the other half :g58:

must have been hard to make back then with such soft metal tools ..possibly made overseas

AH, not "ring money" but pennanular ring, I remember my good friend the late David Williams saying that the most probable thought was that they were worn in the hair... :g43:
