I guess we will never really know Pete... But my girlfriend was involved with a marketing tour and advice when Bamber Gascoigne inherited it a few years back and knew about the story of Sir Walter Raleigh's head apparently it's a well known local story ... but new to me to be honest! But she said the house was amazing full with the possessions and collections of Duchess of Roxburghe but it was in a right state...

I used to have an issue regarding having an inferiority complex, I no longer have an issue with being inferior.
