Well if its a British registered ship the contents belong to the heirs of the owners if they can be traced. If they can't then it belongs to the government, hence the split between the salvors and the government. I hope they do the archaeology properly, ships are a really good source of information as they contain a lot of closely dated materials (like the Mary Rose although not many are THAT good).Thieving so and so's nicking our artifacts from the Channel.
I'd also wonder about their estimates of the value of the bullion - they'll flood the market and prices will drop as they have with a lot of coin types.
i think if you follow the link that petem put up it does say that they recorded all aspects of the find
and as for flooding the market i think they are a bit wise to that and mentioned something about it
just think if there is ships like that in the sea what is still left in the ground for us plenty
