Thanks Greg..almost all of Canadas WW1 Soldiers have these papers on line..very handy when checking things out..however the search can be hard as the names can be entred with the full name..short forms or just letters...try finding a Smith or a Brown without his numbers.
I see last year they found another underground Cave that was enlarged to offer cover for Canadian Troops just before the attack on Vimy...some very nice Regt Badges carved into the chalk..to bad the French framer uses it for garbage,

Looks Like I will be repersenting Camp X at the 65th Anny event of D-Day in Caen...differant groups in Europe have asked we send people and a display as many of those "Behind the lines types" were trained or/and helped by those trained at Camp X....it's either that or a cruse as it will be the Girlfriends 40th...we may go for 10-14 days..still working it out with the Mayors Office of Caen...they already have over 850 Vehs for the parade!!!..

Apparenty the guy whose name is inscribed on the rock died in 1969...aged 75.

Here's an extended/updated version of the BBC story...taken from the news article.....

Relics offer poignant reminders of Canadians' WWI service

A stone etched with the words "Carlyle D. Chamberlain, Canadian Army" - was unearthed by archeologists in Wales, about 50 kilometres from the site of a First World War army camp where thousands of Canadian troops were stationed in 1918.

The poignant reminders of Canadians' overseas service in the First World War have surfaced at a time when interest in the 1914-18 conflict is being stoked in Canada by the approaching anniversary and the release of Canadian actor/director Paul Gross's new movie Passchendaele.

Chamberlain, the focus of the Welsh discovery, was a U.S. citizen who went north - like thousands of other Americans during the First World War - to enlist with the Canadian military.

Archeologists excavating a prehistoric burial ground this summer in the northern Welsh county of Denbighshire stumbled upon a large stone with Chamberlain's name and hometown - "Prospect, Kentucky" - carved into it, along with "Canadian Army."

Denbighshire heritage officials issued a statement this week hoping to locate a Chamberlain relative and find out what happened to the Canadian soldier who left his mark nearly a century ago in the Welsh countryside.

The BBC even covered the county's bid to solve the mystery.

"It gives us a fascinating glimpse into the area 90 years ago," researcher Samantha Williams said. "The fact that a Canadian soldier took the time to inscribe this information on to a stone and leave it there for us to find now is made all the more interesting by what occurred at nearby Kinmel Camp, where the Canadian Army was stationed."

The camp was the scene of a riot in March 1919 when hundreds of Canadian soldiers - angry after spending months waiting for ships to carry them home after the war - went on a rampage, attacking officers and looting military stores.

On Tuesday, following clues in Chamberlain's army enlistment papers posted online by Library and Archives Canada, Canwest News Service tracked down Chamberlain's grandson, David Chamberlain, in Crestview, Fla.

He expressed amazement at the Welsh discovery and had an explanation for why the carved stone was found so far from the Canadian army camp where his grandfather was stationed.

"Hiking was his obsession," said David Chamberlain, describing how his grandfather - who worked as a Louisville police officer after the war - was a founder of the city's outdoors club in the 1920s and an avid birdwatcher.
