One part to be stressed:

Don't wash or conserve treasure finds at all. Prehistoric metalwork, finds that are mostly made of gold or silver, and groups of coins that are more than 300 years old are potential treasure. There is a legal responsibility to report treasure finds. Contact your Finds Liaison Officer for advice (see http://www.finds.org.uk). Keep the treasure dry. You may lose part of any reward if you do clean objects.
