Re: Metal Pot Mends By Tim Storer (Georgian Tim)
On one particular farm our club goes to, I found lots of lead pot mends of various shapes
and sizes. I think these were maybe traded as scrap metal, as a lot of other lead was
found in the vicinity. Including a Papal Bulla.
They are nigh on impossible to date, asI believe they were used from Roman times, up
until post medieval and beyond. When ever clay pots were used for cooking.
They should have been be ok for putting over a fire, as long as there was liquid in the pot
and the fire wasn't in direct contact with the pot.
You can boil water in a plastic bag over a naked flame, as the water absorbs the heat.
