I`ve got some snaps that I`ll sort out after Easter as I`m away. In Leicestershire we seem to be getting mashed up MDF rather than the "genuine" GW that they are getting in Northants & Staffs so it seems more like failings in the processing or the source of the "ingredients".

Thanks John. If anybody else can help, please do. Don't wait for it to be dumped on your farms before you act. Please.

My MP has invited me to go to his surgery to discuss the topic. As I see it green waste is a good idea turned into a disaster by lack of quality control. We should be targeting those compost makers who cannot/will not ensure that their product is 100% biodegradable or rather making sure the relevant government body is doing so. That is why Barney's contact with DEFRA and Treasurehunters with the EA is so important.

According to this document it is appears feasible to include MDF; http://www.wrap.org.uk/downloads/Feasib ... 9.3946.pdf

It strikes me that MDF units will have metal fittings and these are not being screened out after shredding.

It might be worth members on known Green Waste sites posting images of individual items of the contaminating metal for identification. We might be able to work out what items are being shredded then?

This document talks about shredding down to 12mm and electro magnets for separating metal. These would not seperate alluminium.

Also eddy current seperators for non ferrous materials. Would they separate alluminium?

The waste sites I have been on have all been contaminated with alluminium metal waste and no ferrous waste, so is the separation of alluminium the problem?

I think that is a very important point Phil, and one we can explore further. Thanks. :g50:

Still uncertain as to what to get back to my interested councillor here in Bristol with, given he doubts it's an issue under the control of any council policy. Is there a standard briefing pack/letter with facts and figures on it all that I can send him?

I'd love to help, and have the open ear of an influential councillor, but really do need some sort of briefing pack or letter, setting out the facts and what can be done. Happy to help put one together if needs be.

Sorry not to have got back to you earlier. It is hard trying to help co-ordinate a campaign, when you are holding down a full time job, and looking after a young family. Ideally we could get a team together. Nothing too difficult. Just swapping ideas etc., and for those who want more involvement, maybe a particular role.

I have another person tonight looking to join the team. It isn't practical to post everything on here, but feel free to log into countrysidewatch.co.uk, so we can get it moving a bit faster.

Thanks for your support.

Be good to get a viewpoint from the archaeological point of view as to how it would impact on them.

Not sure that it would Phil, archaeologists tend to remove the topsoil and then start digging once they're on the plough-pan. It may be interesting to see if it affects geophysics, though unless its iron I doubt that too! In a way this works in their favour, though they'd certainly not want to see the countryside trashed either. :g50:

I agree with that Pete.

From an archeological point of view I see it as fewer archaeological finds and less treasure being found by detectorists in the future from the top soil.

I gave up on a farm last year after this Green waste was spread over all the fields.

There was masses of Aluminium, stainless steel spoons, forks etc etc. I always remove any lead or other scrap from the fields, so to see this mass littering is heart breaking.

As for health issues, who knows what long term damage fertilizers and Aluminium mixed together are doing?

This makes interesting reading.

Politicians and nappies have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly, and for the same reason.
