Arms ain't my strong point.
I think the crest may be a "demi-savage" with one hand on his hip and the other holding a club..... Click Here

On November 25th 1886 Major Henry James Shuckburgh married Ida Florence Geraldine Robertson, grand-daughter of Sir George Denys whose coat of arms are on the right side (I can not find an on line image)Donnydave wrote:Any idea on this one Kev found by a club member
Henry James Shuckburgh died 9th Feb 1895, so this button dates from 1886-1895.

The family motto is "Vigilate et orate" = 'Watch and Pray' or "Haec manus ob patriam" = 'This hand for my country'.
The crest is "A Demi - Moor Wreathed About The Head, Holding In The Dexter Hand An Arrow In Bend Sinister Ppr."
Click Here a poor picture as the arm is wrong.
The family was based at Shuckburgh, Daventry, Warwickshire

Re: Livery buttons
Genuine lol. Surely that's not the official heraldry term for it though? Perhaps 'Bi amicus, with towel gripped, enséchant'?DiOz wrote:Two good friends drying each other?

Re: Livery buttons
Hi Pete, great to have you around again The coronet on this is bugging me, it looks similar to an Earls coronet but without the three balls on each 'spike', as the earls coronet only has one. Therefore, this is either a johnny foreigner coronet or just a made up pseudo crest. I'll keep looking and let you know if I find out anything
I have become comfortably numb
