A difficult one without knowing the area found as there are so many possibilities. Even then it may not be possible :g64:

Apparently the Queen is/was the only female allowed to have their coat-of-arms on a "shield"....so looks like the coat-of-arms on the button belong to a female.

Hi Kev, I found a livery button yesterday near Whitchurch and was able to identify it as a Griffin button, family name of Bland from your website. Just wanted to say thanks very much, your website is really useful. Does anyone know how I might be able to find out any more about the family and how it links to the livery? Google isn't being much help.

Hi DiOz, here is a picture of the Bland Family Livery button I found near Whitchurch in Shropshire, England. Could anyone point me in the right direction of any more information please?

I think it's a DUGDALE family livery button.....

Image Click Here (then click "Dugdale" to view details).
Seems "John Marshall DUGDALE, Esquire, J.P., D.L., of Llwyn, Llanfyllin" would have been closest to the findspot...about 35 mile away.

Fairbairn's example of that crest shows the "cross moline" above the collar (and most of his descriptions aren't specific about that) but I think it should actually be below the collar (like on the button) and as in this James Broughton DUGDALE (of Wroxhall Abbey, Warwick) crest description...

"a gryphon's head erm., wings endorsed erminois, gorged with a collar az., therefrom pendant a cross moline gu."

...and also as shown on this DUGDALE (of Crathorne Hall in Yorkshire) crest.....

Thanks DiOz that's really interesting. I was going by this page which shows an identical button with the name Bland under it...

https://sites.google.com/site/liverybut ... me/griffin

It's last picture at the bottom of the page.

I like the name Dugdale better than Bland anyway :g50:

It seems that the Bland family used a similar crest...but without the "cross moline" on it... Click Here
