this small button turned up yesterday.
A winged lion playing a lyre.??

It's a MARKHAM family livery button.

A lion sejant, winged and radiated round the
head, and supporting a harp.

The pic is from the 1815 book "Elven's Heraldry".

Found this in Waverley, Surrey... I understand it's depicting a lion rampant holding a crown within a wreath with a large crown above. The reverse has the maker's name of CHATWIN & SONS BIRMINGHAM.

any other information, would be most appreciated...

Found this in Waverley, Surrey... I understand it's depicting a lion rampant holding a crown within a wreath with a large crown above. The reverse has the maker's name of CHATWIN & SONS BIRMINGHAM.

That's the East India Company crest.

It's a "1st Baron ROBERTS of Kandahar" livery button.

Frederick Sleigh Roberts (1832–1914) became a Baron in 1892, which is within in the 1880-to-1904 period when FIRMIN buttons with REGENT in the backmark were apparently made. (Firmin & Sons Ld 47 Warwick St, Regent St London).

Hi,

A mate of mine found this today in N Glos area, seems very unusual to me, unlike the usual crested buttons I find anyway but I have faith that team Kev/Dave will sort it!!

I've hijacked our club forum for the photo so unable to re-shoot it, however we have a club meeting tomorrow night so can ask to borrow it for better shots if you feel it's necessary and will help to ID.
