Re: Lead bag and cloth seals
I found this seal in Dorset and think that it is a Dutch Haarlem type cloth seal for a 20 Dutch ells long piece of fabric (page 309 in your book Stu). Not entirely sure of the date for this one though, 16th Century?

And for Queen Anne but not in this case as the London dye seals predated her reign.popsandme wrote:That is the monogram for the antiques roadshow ......oh, and my initials

Yes you're right Pete. Probably 16th century or even early 17th century.dig-it-pete wrote:I found this seal in Dorset and think that it is a Dutch Haarlem type cloth seal for a 20 Dutch ells long piece of fabric (page 309 in your book Stu). Re: Lead bag and cloth seals
I found this at Kellhoe County Durham, I think that it's a 17th Century Dutch bale seal R & A = Regten en Accisen, (state finance department)

Re: Lead bag and cloth seals
I always thought it meant Customs & Excise ??? Anyhow it is a Dutch customs seal but we think it was attached to all kinds of goods - Ged Dodd is now setting up a database for these - http://peacehavens.co.uk/BSDUTCH.htm send a FULL SIZE picture to him (if you're on Facebook you can add it here - https://www.facebook.com/groups/PeaceHavensProject/)
