6th & 7th Century Kings

I'm trying to get info on the 6th and 7th century Kings of Kent. I can find plenty of info about the Kings themselves but what I'm after is info on how they were escorted from place to place. Did they have an entourage ? did they have foot soldiers ? did they have knights ? Did his entourage camp overnight surrounding the Kings residence ? I can only assume that in those very dangerous days he would have had a personal body guard of dozens of knights with him and perhaps scores of other troops and servants? The reason I'm asking is because I have come across info that on several occasions the Kings and Bishops of those days had some very important high status meetings where every man and his dog attended. I just might have come across one of those places on one of my permissions! I'm trying to work out the lay of the land and possible camping places that would be suitable for his escort. Any info would be greatly appreciated even if it is just a point in the right direction, a book, a web site...... anything, thanks.

Mike, have a look in the historic atlas of Kent in WHSmiths(a large green A4 size book priced at £30. Theres lots of info in there. When I need info rather than spend that sort of cash I go down and read up :g42:

Thanks Kev, will have a gander next time I'm in there. All I'm after is info on how many people accompanied the king when he was out and about. Didn't realise how difficult it would be, it appears no one has any idea! lol

Could be a long shot mate as I pretty much doubt if any such goings on were documented. Good Luck
