Detectorists against Green Waste Campaign!!
As members will no doubt be aware UKDN do not like politics being debated on the forum. We all have different views, and in the past it has led to fallouts, misunderstandings etc However there comes a time when we believe that the vast amount of members, all hold a majority view, and on this occasion, this is one of them. It is time for all those detectorists, of all forums and bodies, to act together!!
For a number of years now Farmers have been dumping 'compost' on their fields, which has not been sifted properly. It is waste often from councils, companies, households etc, which is only being sifted by hand, and only then put through a machine to remove any larger items, and a magnet used to remove larger magnetic metals.
This has meant that fields are becoming a complete dumping ground, not much different from 'fly tipping', with plastics, metals, and glass, to name a few.
Barney (a moderator on here) has put together a video, to show how bad the situation has become.

If we don't do anything soon, the hobby and many historical sites will have major problems. Do your bit and sign this petition today.

Re: Detectorists against Green Waste Campaign!!
this is a statement made by the RSPCA -
signed
please do link the petition and the youtube clip to any media sites or other groups to help expose this problemWe appreciate your concern in the matter of rubbish being a threat to wildlife and the countryside. Annually, the RSPCA receives over 7,000 phone calls about litter-related incidents and our officers regularly rescue pets, farm and wild animals trapped or hurt by discarded litter.
With many pet and farm owners going direct to vets, and many injured wild animals never being found, it is estimated that this figure is just the tip of the iceberg.

Politicians and nappies have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly, and for the same reason.
