Father and son deny Bronze Age theft

A FATHER and son team armed with metal detectors illegally removed 3,000-
year-old artefacts from an Uttlesford estate while acting as “nighthawkers”, a
court was told yesterday (Wednesday, October 28).

Takes the p*** really.

Honest officer. We intended to report the finds.

I knew of these getting caught from day 1 through the gamekeepers on the estate. No doubt that it wasn't their first visit, as this place has been plagued for years by hawkers.

What a waste of money bringing these to court after several appearances leading upto this one, just to let them go with no more than a slapped wrist..

An Interesting concept - if you tell the court that you were just on the way to tell the owner that you had stolen his stuff you are innocent.................

I will sum it up in one old fashioned word. PATHETIC.

In my young days you could get flogged for doing less.

Society has lost the plot and as my little wife often says
