Re: Any Detectorist's in Folkestone up for a meet?

Good luck Little John and have a great time on the beach (glad to see you have a permit!) Any time spent in the first few weeks/months learning this hobby is time well spent. I started my brother in the hobby with a trip to Weston SM...........loads of trash so we went to Burnham..........he got wel...

Re: William Conqueror coin discovered near Gloucester

Just an aside, as a member of Taynton MDC I can assure you all that Taynton is nowhere near Burford!!! Also the coin was found a good deal nearer to Newent than Highnam. Most of the rest of the article is a paraphrase of the reports published well over a year ago. It's great for Maureen, the club, a...

Re: Pistorius' to get bail

I know all you non sporty people like to make a joke out of something, but I was actually quite upset about this whole episode. OK I'm not South African, I'm not a para olympian, I'm not quite in a wheelchair yet, but I do enjoy sport at the highest level and admire those who achieve world status. P...

Re: Richard III dig: DNA confirms bones are king's

Very interesting documentary that might rewrite history............. The Tudors and Shakespeare have a lot to answer for in portraying Richard 111 as an evil tyrant and murderer, but the scientific facts prove that he did have a spinal disorder, (which obviously upset Philippa Langley!!) The documen...

Re: Word Magazine - Issue 64 - December 2012

Well done to all involved in producing a fascinating read! I particularly liked the 'Identification of Find' article, as the button was found by a clubmate. The Roman History in Fiction article was also very interesting..........I may well get the set of books for next summer's holiday reading. I ha...

Re: The Early Military Button project

Hi BY, Thanks for your extra info on the button. Unfortunately there is no silver mark on the back.......... It's always interesting to try and wonder why an unusual button ended up in the ground in the depths of the countryside so hopefully your project will provide some meaningful answers or at le...

Re: Stripping the background off images

You need to select the image using the software's selection tool. Magnetic is useful as it picks up pixels of a similar colour. You might need to adjust the tolerance if it picks up too much. If you have an ellipsis (circle) selection option this works well with coins, but takes a bit of practice to...

Re: Which entry DSLR

I'm no photography expert, but do enjoy taking 'nice' photos. I've owned many digital cameras pretty much since they were introduced. The first ones were pretty dire and in those days it was hard to imagine how their picture quality could ever replace a good quality film camera. But technology moves...
