The only exception would be if the farmer is a tenant of the Council and then it becomes complex. I don't agree. As far as I understand the process, with rather a lot of experience of it............ The valuation is between the landowner and the finder. Same as "post Christmas" every year. Get a machine, go down the local "feature" and think you can detect it. As for "historically significant items" that is fairly unlikely, more likely cans & ring pulls etc discarded by visitors. Simple fix - invite the local club ...

We have about 160+ acres of ploughed, cultivated, drilled and rolled available "near Lichfield". Its a cracking site that has turned up a lot of stuff from Bronze Age, lots of Roman to Medieval. Sadly it is slowly disappearing under houses and HS2 so this might be the last decent visit. :t...
