The most shocking thing for me was the very dry state of the soil. No detectorist should ever dig into pasture as dry as it was during this programme.

I never met Dr Blackburn but through my lifelong interest in numismatics it was impossible not to know of him. He was a brilliant scholar, who gained a massive amount of respect through his work, and he will be greatly missed.
