Re: Roman seal boxes
I love those last two. Proof once again that the ancient world was actually quite a colourful place.

Genuine lol. Surely that's not the official heraldry term for it though? Perhaps 'Bi amicus, with towel gripped, enséchant'?DiOz wrote:Two good friends drying each other?

That's really interesting, thanks StuE. Sounds like a system initially full of corruption, fixed by turning it into a flat tax. Plus ca change!

Re: Funds withdrawn in Richard III Leicester tomb row
Wow, hadn't seen that design before. It really is poor, by any standards of cathedral tomb design, let alone a tomb for a king of his era.

Re: Lead bag and cloth seals
Interesting Godfrey - but beyond your conclusion of a pre-decimal price tag I don't think I can add anything - is that rust on it? Thanks Stu, thought that might be the case, but worth an ask anyway. Think that is rust on it, but the item itself isn't iron, so possibly picked up from proximity to s...

Re: Lead bag and cloth seals
This turned up in my junk bag from last week. Don't think it's terribly old, but it seems to read 'Price 1/3' or 'Price 1/8'. It looks more like '3' in the photo, and '8' in real life. So, a pre-decimal price tag for something I reckon, but beyond that I'm stumped!

Here's one I found yesterday that I'd appreciate an ID on too. Don't think it's very old.

Re: Detectorists against Green Waste Campaign!!
Had a response back from my councillor friend in Bristol who's done some looking into this around here now. I am assured that Bristol doesn't pay farmers to spread it. There are two grades: one is commercial grade compost that is sold on and the other is used for what they call restitution, which is...

Re: Green waste - MP response two years ago
Part of the problem is that it won't even be the MP who's replying (or even ever reading your letter), but one of their case workers or researchers, often recent graduates working for nothing more than travel expenses, whilst trying to live in London. A better way to get stuff done is to find out wh...

Re: Detectorists against Green Waste Campaign!!
I'd love to help, and have the open ear of an influential councillor, but really do need some sort of briefing pack or letter, setting out the facts and what can be done. Happy to help put one together if needs be.
