There are some significant differences between this coin and the Spink 1375 example. Is there a record to how many dies were manufactured for this coinage? I’m sure that info will be in The First Gold Coins of England (Numismatic Chronicle, 1900) by Sir John Evans but it’s not a free download unfor...

There will more than likely be a paper on that coin somewhere in the volumes at the British numismatist society, leave it with me.

This coin appears to be from different dies as it reads LVN for London and not LVn as shown on previous examples. Perhaps an even rarer example? Most of the 80000 coins of this type that were minted were melted down soon after being issued because it was discovered that they contained more gold tha...

Didnt end well as it exploded during the detonator burn out phase, set off the main armament, thankfully nobody was killed or harmed.

I do hope that if the "finder" was foreign that they apply for the appropriate export license to legally remove them from these shores....
