Hobbit treasure to be legal tender in NZ

Post by Puffin »

New Zealand will release commemorative The Hobbit coins worth thousands of dollars ahead of next month's premiere of director Peter Jackson's latest Tolkien epic.

The coins featuring characters such as Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the wizard will be legal tender in the country, New Zealand Post says, although their face value will be only a fraction of the cost collectors will be expected to pay.

It will be a NZ $10 piece; made out of gold.
The same as a gold sov' over here; It's face value is £1, but because it's made of gold it's worth a lot more :g50:
