Golden treasure unearthed in Bulgaria

Post by Baldric »

Bulgarian archaeologists have unearthed ancient golden artefacts during excavation works in the north of the country.
The findings include golden rings, female figurines and 100 gold buttons. They are thought to date back to the late 4th or early 3rd century BC.

Very nice. I remember going to the BM about 30yrs ago to see the Thracian Treasure from Bulgaria.

Must have been a deep seeking detector that found that lot :g42:

I went to one of their main museums in Varna a few years ago. The artefacts on display were amazing. They had two pieces of the oldest known worked gold which were two earings that looked like angels. They were tiny so much so that one of them was under a magnifying glass so you could see the detail of the engraving. The archie's were puzzled as to how they were made being so small unless they find a burried magnifying glass, I guess we will never know!
Today's the day! (Or that's what i've been telling myself for the past thirty years!)
