For those eligible, who haven't already claimed

You could get between £100 and £300 tax-free to help pay your heating bills if you were born on or before 5 July 1951. This is known as a ‘Winter Fuel Payment’.

Most payments are made automatically between November and December. You should get your money by Christmas.

You should get a Winter Fuel Payment automatically if you get the State Pension or another social security benefit (not Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit or Child Benefit).

If you qualify but don’t get paid automatically, you’ll need to make a claim.

How do you get the money from EON ?, we are with them too.
Is it the over 60 deal ? We did get something through from them yesterday about tariffs,
but I haven't read it properly yet.

Whilst on the subject anyone (yes anyone) that needs cavity wall insulation or if you have below 65mm of loft insulation, can still get it done free until the end of this year. I got mine through B&Q, they have stands at most of their stores where you just sign up, they send out a surveyor to view your property and then get on and do the work.

I went in on Sunday, by Monday the surveyor was at my home, by Wednesday I had an appointment to have the work done by the 12th December. All they do is claim the grant back from the Government, easy! :Should save me a load of money in the years to come. g50:

All good advice.

Just be sure to check in you loft afterwards, if you have cold water tanks up there.
I've been to a couple of customers where they have had tanks overflowing, and had water
coming through the ceiling. Due to overflows from tanks either being broken, or pulled
apart.
The people doing the insulation travel all over the country, and are not always the
smartest of people.

Another scheme available to some is called the "Warm Home Discount Scheme" this is paid as an extra to the winter fuel payment and could be worth an extra £130 this year, to see if you qualify check out the official government site for further details. https://www.gov.uk/the-warm-home-discou ... e/overview
Also check out your energy supplier as the rules vary from supplier to supplier, just search warm home discount scheme.
Last year i recieved a £120 payment, this year it is worth £130 (am still waiting to see if i'm elligable for it).
