The question must be, will it be the real site of the battle, or the one presumed for so many years ?

On a personal track, I do not believe that either should be used for the intended purpose, the whole
area is so beautiful it should become a SSSI, and preserved for all eternity. There will always be
those who believe the original story.

"including a 25 acre area that has officially protected status" - if that status means anything at all then development on that part of the site should be refused, if not it is a worthless scheme.

If it does get the go ahead then at least it will have an archaeological dig and as much info as possible will be found and made public, something that will never happen as it stands today!
I have become comfortably numb

Fair point Kev, personally I hope it doesn't go ahead, but if it did and a archaeological dig were to happen... one could only imagine what could turn up... :g43:

Those 25 acres represent about 0.8% of the "battle site".
As we know these battle fields are very ephemeral things with skirmishes and fights across a massive area.
Metal detecting has already proved the "accepted" battlefield is not in the right place, neither is the visitors centre!
Alongside that there is a another detecting discovery of an important Roman Temple site, a good 6 part read on the PAS site: https://finds.org.uk/counties/leicester ... roduction/
Local opinion is that any properly negated "loss" is almost acceptable compared to the creation of 2,000+ jobs.

Combine that with a massive addiction to greed and you are spot on. :g44:

In your reply John, you refer to "the accepted" battlefield, excuse my ignorance, but, is that the later field, not the one upon which the visitor centre was built ? I only ever went close to the first believed site, but did not visit it.

What will always remain with me is the memory of the location, not too far distant from the canal.
It was stunningly beautiful, and peaceful to be there.

I do not really know how close the second choice location is, and only ask to improve my knowledge.
