Quote from the news article "An inquest held at Chesterfield Coroner’s Court today (Monday, January 21) heard that the coins were found in the side of a Bronze Age barrow, buried two and a half feet underground."

Surely the "Bronze Age Barrow" is a scheduled ancient monument and as such it is illegal to detect the area.

Maybe not Phil, as I know 2 sites that have ploughed out bronze age barrows that isn't a scheduled ancient monument... :g43:

Thanks Lee.

At a depth of 30" too, I wonder what machines they were using? I wonder if any of us would keep digging after two feet of digging? Or do I misunderstand the two and a half feet depth they were found at?

Yes Pete 30" is unbelievable... I also would like to know what machine was being used to find this hoard at that depth? I think I would of give up long before reaching that depth...

Yes I know what you mean BUT just think of all the time (and the mess) digging those whacking great holes!! I certainly would not be doing that on an organised dig :g45: :g50:
