There are some significant differences between this coin and the Spink 1375 example. Is there a record to how many dies were manufactured for this coinage?

There will more than likely be a paper on that coin somewhere in the volumes at the British numismatist society, leave it with me.

I’m sure that info will be in The First Gold Coins of England (Numismatic Chronicle, 1900) by Sir John Evans but it’s not a free download unfortunately as far as I can find.

Assuming that this coin is the real deal. Then it is an incredible stroke of luck and a wondrous find of a lifetime.
Professionally aimless wandering.

I really hope this doesn’t drive the treasure people to the old “report anything older than 300 years” and they just take everything off you. I must say though he’s a lucky man finding that and actually getting to keep it.

Page 30 details the 4 die sets.
https://www.britnumsoc.org/publications ... NJ_9_8.pdf
Class IV obverse but, the reverse is not listed! Could this possibly a new reverse die type?
If it is, and genuine, They could order a new house and a Ferrari to park in the drive :g38: :g38:

Stolen from elsewhere - not my research.

I cropped and sharpened the images a bit of this truly amazing find.

They also have one in The Fitzwilliam Museum - https://collection.beta.fitz.ms/id/object/250388
