and loads of silver paper and ring pulls!!
I have always thought that sensitive sites like stonehenge should be covered with various sized steel & copper washers at different depths!!! They would soon give up after they had dug up a few washers.
Even have signs put up saying the ground has been 'seeded' to stop any illegal detecting. Surely they have a responsibility to do something to stop nighthawking on these sites? Just by making a site scheduled and putting up signs is not going to stop these idiots, as we see all too often, which then gives the hobby a bad name and more ammunition for the anti detecting lobby

I was trying out the What Three Words app today and it made me think - what three words would you use to describe that idiot?

Re: Arrest after man allegedly damaged Stonehenge while using metal detector
Quote from the article….. They say he was arrested on suspicion of intentionally or recklessly damaging a protected monument; using a metal detector in a protected place without the consent of the secretary of state; removing an item of archaeological or historical interest which is discovered by the use of a metal detector in a protected place without the written consent; and possession of explosives without a valid permit.
Possession of explosives…..just wtf.
As for it being a scheduled monument I don’t understand the logic of leaving all these finds just laying around for scallywags to take.
Surly a small team of detectorists with a beady eyed archi could pretty much collect the majority of good stuff. Coordinate and photo for prosperity and then that’s much less for Scallwaggs. I’d be happy enough to do searches with an archaeologist doing all the paperwork, deciding everything that needs deciding. As long as I got a photo out of the ground and one cleaned up I’d be happy. Ok anything worth a mighty Bob or two and it would be nice to get a wee finders fee….but otherwise it’s no good to me anyway. Better of in a museum or display of some sort.
Just my two pennies worth…..works in my head lol.

Never let a stumble in the road be the end of your journey.

Found alittle more on this story he's name is named in the article!
"Metal detectorist arrested after finding explosive and WW2 artefacts at Stonehenge"
Quote from the article...
"He then posted snaps of his finds online while heading home — bragging: “Only travelling with a Live Mortar wot (sic) I found in Stonehenge on train. F***, it’s going in my find box.”
