The Priddy Hoard from the Mendips to go on show.
More Here.
Bronze Age Gold
The Mendips must have been a significant area in prehistory - the Priddy Circles (4 henges in a row) and other ritual monuments may have put it in the same league as the Stonehenge and Thornborough areas.
Significant lead deposits meant it was a target for the Romans - either for the lead itself or for silver extracted from the lead - even in the 19th century silver was being produced by cuppellation and a process known as the 'Pattinson process' at Charterhouse.
Nice hoard though - is the finder in residence on here?
