Re: Time Team 2008
Is that the episode where Baldrick got all excited about a gold coin perhaps the best T/T find to date?   Jerry.

Re: Time Team 2008
At the end of the day Tony Robinson is like the rest of the treasure mad people, his eyes light up at the sound of gold! They've had some damn nice finds on T.T, I don't think a gold coin (a noble I believe ranks amongst the best).
Still will be nice to see it come up.

Re: Time Team 2008
The second one is at Binchester Roman Fort, in County Durham.
We visited the fort this year, when we were staying in North Yorkshire, and the curator was telling us all about the TT dig.
The geophys the chap showed us, gave the outline of a large town around the fort.
I believe detectorists made a few decent finds.
I don't know if Norman was involved or not, it was right on his doorstep.

Re: Time Team 2008
Its good to see that the Codnor Castle eipisode is actually titled 'Gold in the Moat'.
Clearly the discovery of the gold coin is going to be a highlight of what is the opening programme of the series. Given TT's reputation on here I was thinking that it might not get featured at all. Lets hope it is clearly shown to be a detector find, and not ridiculed in some way.

Re: Time Team 2008
I'm sure they will all be interesting, but I can't wait to see the one on 3rd Feb - Mysteries of the Mosaic where they (TimeTeam) uncovered a mosaic floor originally discovered by our 2 club founders -Dave and Don (Coberley rally organisors).
I've seen some of the photo's and they are stunning.
It will be interesting to see how the story pans out and how the detectorists and the landowner are portrayed.
For all of you who went to the Coberley rally, be sure to watch this one - you were only a couple of fields away.

One to look out for
Monday 14 January, 8:00pm - 9:00pm on Channel 4
Ainsbrook
Tony Robinson reports on an investigation into a
possible Viking boat burial in Yorkshire. When detectorists make a
major discovery of coins, silver and swords a team of archaeologists
set out to uncover the source of these remarkable objects. The
programme looks at the relationship between archaeologists and the
UK's 50,000 metal detectorists.
