So there could be a whole load of set-a-side this winter if they can sow the crop in time, you have to feel sorry for these people. One farmer friend I saw this week was worried sick about it. He said at the moment although he'd have to dry the crop, it would be fine, but any longer and he'll be in trouble like so many. All they need is a week or so of dry weather, but he's already looking at which fields to write off. :g48:

I had a look at a local field this morning the farmer had gone around the edges but left the rest, I checked the wheat and it as good seeds firm, fresh and golden, so it must be the wet ground thats stopped him but there is no sign of deep wheel ruts? I noticed another local field the same about 2 miles from the first and thats been done the same, is there a reason for it? all the adjacent fields have been harvested and ploughed.

Hate to be a harbinger of doom but I can't see a week of dry weather any time soon, I hope I'm proved wrong. Seems like it's been grey and murky for months now and it's not even winter! :g40:

Please please be sunny soon! :g46:

I think the farmers go round the edge of the fields possibly because its dryer being exposed to the wind and then the winds etc can get into the crop more central to the field and hopefully dry this too.

The reason normally for going around the outside first. Is for making the space for the headland turns for the combine, for when they start cutting up and down the field.
When you have a 35ft header, you'll need the space to swing it around. :g50:
